Larger beautiful sitting Awa bronze Buddha from Burma. Also called Tai Yai. This Buddha is sitting on a very large Throne in a rather unusual posture,  "healing teacher" or Bhisakta guru. Holding a nut in his right hand and in the left, a bowl with water. His oval face has a serene expression, the hair is peppercorn styled and at the top rises the usnisa (flame) shaped as a stupa. The robe is quit simple, and the ears are normaly going all the way down to the shoulders. But not on this Buddha. The patina is dark brown, nearly blackish. The Buddha is in a excellent condition. A collectors item.

Exceptionally rare and impressive Awa Buddha in bronze from Burma (Myanmar), dating to the 18th century. The figure is a remarkable example of Awa craftsmanship with several unusual features.

This antique bronze Buddha statue is seated on a very large multi-tier throne, giving it a monumental and balanced presence.

The prominent usnisa (flame on top of the head) has a stupa-like form, a classical feature in Burmese Buddhist art.

The hair is rendered in small “peppercorn” curls, and notably, the ears do not extend to the shoulders, which is an unusual characteristic.

The oval face, broad nose, and subtle smile create a calm and harmonious expression.

The figure is depicted in the rare “healing teacher” (Bhaisajyaguru) pose, holding a bowl in the left hand and a nut in the right.

The patina is deep dark brown, almost black, adding weight and character to the piece.

The figure remains in very fine condition and represents a true collector’s piece.

With a height of 56 cm, this is a large and striking Buddha figure from Burma, ideal as a centerpiece in an exclusive collection.
